2017 started off more than a bit rocky. I had a lot of personal ups and downs this year but I believe that the outcome made me a better, stronger person. This year I had a lot of self doubt, questioning, and wondering who I am meant to be and the way I want to live my life. This year was a test to everything I had thought that I had planned, but in the end really figured it out (for now)! While 2017 wasn’t my best year, so much good came from it. Here’s a list of 12 of my favorite memories that made my year GOOD.
12. Brooke & Cody Graduation
This Summer, the twins finally graduated high school. It was a huge deal because they both worked so hard to finish. Watching them cross the stage together was a moment I will truly never forget. Brooke started college at DCTC in the fall and Cody at Saint Paul Tech. I can’t wait to see all the GOOD these two do in the future.
11. Cabin Weekend!
In January Brit & Max won a cabin stay and about twelve of us went up to the cabin for the weekend. We played games, drank, ate and laughed. We tried to do some ice fishing, but gave up shortly and went inside to take a nap and eat tacos.
10. Coldplay Concert
I bought cheap last minute tickets to the Coldplay concert because Jack and I are both huge fans and have never went. Even though we were in the nosebleeds, we had the absolute time of our lives. The show was so amazing. The vocals were great and the light show was awesome. It was by far the best concert I’ve ever been to & one I will NEVER forget.
9. G-Phi Formals & Date Parties – Spring & Fall
Gamma Phi Date parties are always a blast. The last two were a few of my favorites! In the spring, I got to have two of my best friends (ya Elle & T) dancing the night away with me & also got to spend time with Lauren at her last formal (never forget lol).
8. Bid Day 2017
Bid Day this year was so bitter sweet. It was such a blast, but so sad because I knew it would be my last one. This year, we did a great job recruiting a great group of girls. On this day, Maita Lou was also reunited with Gamma Phi. Gamma Phi has brought me to my closest college friendships, has taught me to be independent, feel supported and encouraged by so many other strong women. It is truly something I will cherish long past my college years.
7. Coaching Girls on the Run
GIRLS ON THE RUN IS SO MUCH FUN. If you know me at all, you know how much I loved being a volunteer coach for Girls on the Run this year. I spent two hours a week teaching girls to be happy, healthy, and CONFIDENT. While I was doing so much teaching, I was also doing so much learning. The girls taught me so much more than I could have imagined and it was the most humbling experience. At the 5k I definitely CRIED because I was so proud. Can’t wait for next season!!!
6. Spending 365 days with my Best Friend
Elle & I went on so many adventures in the last year that I couldn’t just pick one. I am devastated if I don’t see her for more than three years. A few of my favorite memories include her joining Gamma Phi, Date Party, dance parties, coffee dates, the 1975 concert, constant slumbies & snacks, night drives, being the only girls at Riley & Carl’s, binge watching New Girl, wine night at your parents, volleyball games, intramural volleyball (Go Ravioli Eaters!), bullet journal dates & our countless Target runs.
5. Big & Little Reveal / Getting a Grand Little
I honestly wouldn’t have had the experience that I have had in Gamma Phi if it weren’t for my Greek Fam. I am truly SO blessed for the friendship I have in each one of these girls (+ Ana, Court & Megan). Mermaid Fam accounts for SO many of my memories this year, but a truly special moment was becoming a Grand Big! It surely made me feel old. Can’t forget Phi Psi Wedding, Homecoming & Machy day events, and our Denny’s dates.
4. First Practicum Experience at Earle Brown Elementary School
This Spring I started my first Practicum experience at Earle Brown Elementary school. I was in a first grade classroom with a first year teacher. I absolutely loved the school and my classroom. It was truly an exciting experience to FINALLY be in the classroom. I have always wanted to be a teacher, and moving closer and closer to that goal is so exciting. It was so rewarding to see how much the kids really connected with me and genuinely didn’t want me to leave at the end of the semester. It was hard to leave them, but in the fall I was placed at Marcy Open School where I continued my hands on experience.
3. Seaberg Family Vacation to Bethany Beach, Delaware
Seaberg Family Vacation is always a blast. This year, we headed back to Bethany Beach Delaware. It is always so fun to be with all of Jack’s siblings and family. Us kids always have such a great time together. Highlights are obviously spending time with my favorite nuggets, Millie & Parker. This trip, Millie was more crazy than ever, so willing to play and SO cuddly. I will be so sad the day she stops calling me “Auntie Tay-or”. Parker was on the BRINK of walking! It was so fun seeing him take his little steps & smirk every time he was doing something he wasn’t suppose to be! Those two grow so much every time we see them
2. Traveling to NYC during New Years
Every year we usually go out to the East Coast to visit Jack’s Brother, sister in law and their kids. At the beginning of 2017, we took the 18 hour drive and made it to Pennsylvania. We spent a lot of time with the kids, took Millie to a movie and lunch (so so so fun), and spent some time in NYC which is only an hour and a half away from their house. We ate a lot of breakfast sandwiches (SO GOOD IN JERSEY), went to a few diners, and so much more. I even love the 18 hour drive because Jack and I always have so much fun when we trek all the way out there.
1. Traveling Across the World to Bali, Indonesia
The absolute highlight of my year was traveling all the way across the world to Bali. Jack and I changed our original course from a different place to Bali. I am so glad that we did. While the 26 hour flight was the WORST, we had so much fun. I had never been anywhere like Bali before. It was so cheap, peaceful and beautiful. It was my first time being to Asia and around tropical rainforest terrain. We had so much fun swimming, snorkeling, eating and drinking new and exotic foods, trying so many new things, visiting islands, beaches, and even renting a motor bike for a day.
2018 will bring Graduation, more travel, a house (hopefully), the start of my Master’s Degree and SO much more.
2017 was a year I’ll never forget, but I think 2018 will be the best one yet! Cheers to another year of adventure, fun, learning and GROWTH. Happy New Year Everyone!
